Use wired stereo headphones

FreqCraft is built for wired stereo headphones. This is about fidelity, not volume or latency.

Bluetooth and other wireless headphones re-encode audio through lossy compression (SBC, AAC, aptX, LDAC) that smears the sharp on/off edges isochronic tones depend on, and can blur the phase-stable left/right separation binaural beats require. Many wireless models also apply EQ, noise cancellation, or "enhancement" processing that silently alters the exact frequencies you set. A wired connection passes your signal through unmodified — what you set is what you hear.

Check your phone's audio settings

Two phone-side settings can quietly break the binaural effect even with perfect headphones:

Mono audio (Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Hearing) merges the left and right channels into one. Binaural beats need each ear to receive a different frequency — in Mono, the two tones collapse together and you hear a pulsing "wah-wah," even through a single earbud. Turn Mono audio off.

System EQ, Dolby Atmos, "surround sound" / spatial audio, or other "audio enhancement" alter the exact signal you set — and surround or spatial modes can push the beat into a single ear, the same way Mono does. Turn them all off for an unmodified signal.

Quick test: a binaural track should sound like one smooth, steady tone. A pulsing "wah-wah" — or a beat you can hear in one earbud — means your stereo is being collapsed, almost always by Mono audio.

Vibrational transducers (contact speakers)

FreqCraft's isochronic mode is compatible with vibrational transducers — contact speakers that convert an audio signal directly into physical vibration.

Binaural mode requires stereo separation between two ears and is headphone-specific. Isochronic mode outputs a single-channel pulse signal with no stereo dependency, making it the correct choice for any single-driver output device — including contact speakers, bone conduction transducers, and PEMF devices with 3.5mm audio input. Connect via wired 3.5mm output from your Android device. FreqCraft makes no claims about physiological effects of vibrational delivery — this is user-directed experimentation with an audio signal.

Common Questions

My session stops playing after a few minutes.
This is almost always your phone's battery optimization shutting down background audio — most common on Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony, and Huawei devices. To fix it, exclude FreqCraft from battery optimization: open your phone's Settings, search for "battery" or "app battery usage," find FreqCraft, and set it to Unrestricted (some phones label this "Don't optimize"). Stock Android and Pixel devices are rarely affected. FreqCraft already runs a background audio service to keep long sessions alive — the Unrestricted setting above is only needed on the most aggressive OEMs.
Why can't I hear a binaural beat?
Binaural beats require wired stereo headphones — each ear must receive a different frequency. Speakers output the same signal to both ears, which cancels the effect. Plug in wired headphones and try again. (Bluetooth headphones can degrade the effect — see the note above. If it plays but pulses like a wah-wah, your phone is in Mono — see the next question.)

Your phone is collapsing stereo to Mono. Binaural beats need a different frequency in each ear; Mono merges them into one channel, so the two tones beat audibly in a single output — which is exactly the pulsing you're hearing. Go to Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Hearing and turn Mono audio off. Also switch off any system EQ, Dolby Atmos, or "surround sound" / spatial audio — these remix the stereo channels the same way and can push the beat into one ear. Quick test: a binaural track should sound like one smooth, steady tone — not a pulse.
FreqCraft is pausing my music when I start a session.
This should not happen — background mixing is a core feature. If it does occur, force-stop both apps, reopen your music app first, let it begin playing, then open FreqCraft and start your session. If the issue persists, email support with your Android version and device model.
What is the difference between binaural and isochronic modes?
Binaural: Two slightly different frequencies — one in each ear. Your brain perceives the difference as a beat. Requires stereo headphones. Isochronic: A single tone that switches on and off at the target rate. Works on speakers. Both methods target the same brainwave entrainment goal — the delivery mechanism differs.
What do the carrier and beat frequency fields do?
The carrier frequency sets the pitch of the tone (e.g., 200 Hz). The beat frequency (binaural) or pulse rate (isochronic) sets the entrainment target — the brainwave frequency you are targeting (e.g., 10 Hz for alpha). Keep carrier below 1000 Hz and beat up to about 40 Hz (delta through gamma) for effective results.
Which waveform should I use?
Sine is the recommended default and the standard for entrainment — a single clean frequency with no added overtones. Square, sawtooth, and triangle are provided for exploration: they add harmonic overtones that can sound bright or harsh, most noticeably at higher carrier frequencies. Isochronic mode always uses a sine carrier for the cleanest pulse. Every waveform stays available — sine is simply the most precise.
Can I use FreqCraft with a PEMF device or contact speaker?
Yes, if your device accepts a standard 3.5mm audio input. Use isochronic mode — it outputs a single-channel pulse signal with no stereo dependency, which is the correct choice for any single-driver transducer output. See the Vibrational transducers note above for details. FreqCraft makes no claims about PEMF efficacy or physiological effects of vibrational delivery.
Can I stack multiple frequencies or add background noise?
Not in FreqCraft Mobile. This is the introductory release — a focused, single-layer precision tool. Multi-layer stacking, frequency ramping between states, ambient noise mixing, and session sequencing are coming in FreqCraft Studio for desktop, currently in development. You can run FreqCraft alongside a separate noise or ambient app in the meantime — background mixing keeps both playing.
How do I get a refund?
Refund requests are handled through Google Play. Open the Play Store, find your purchase, and request a refund through Google's standard process. Google Play's refund policy governs all purchases.
Does FreqCraft collect any of my data?
No. FreqCraft has no internet permission and cannot transmit data. All sessions, presets, and settings are stored locally on your device only. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Is FreqCraft safe to use?
Read the in-app disclaimer before use. Do not use if you have epilepsy, seizure disorders, serious psychiatric conditions, cardiac conditions, or are pregnant. Do not use while driving or operating machinery. Discontinue immediately if you experience dizziness, disorientation, or unusual discomfort. Consult a physician if you have any neurological or cardiovascular health concerns.
